Not Practicing

“The girls had been raised Unitarian (Universalist)…. Enough religion to be respectable but not enough to get in the way.” – Marge Piercy (Fly Away Home).

The current state of the nation being what it is, it is difficult for many of us to admit that we align ourselves with any religion at all. Millennials have deconstructed from their religious upbringings, churches tend to find themselves in the spotlight for unsavory behaviors, school systems and sports programs no longer leave space on the calendar for participants to attend church, and the elders are doing what elders do after having carried the mantle for decades.

Inspired by Scott W. Alexander’s sermon, Getting Serious About Unitarian Universalism, DRE Ashleigh Fuson will deliver this Sunday’s message and challenge all to deeply consider the reputation of Unitarian Universalism as being a “lightweight” religion and how that attitude impacts the work that we do.
