Mental Health and the Privilege of Transformation (Video)

I had my first mental health appointment more than 25 years ago, and my road to mental health has been long. I’ve gone through a handful of counselors, a brief hospitalization and numerous med changes. In recent years, I have found the right combination of meds and the right counselor for this part of my life, but I also worked very hard. I worked hard to transform my life, my self-esteem, and my mental health. I was proud of myself for all the work I’d done and what I had accomplished. But they say pride comes before the fall.

I’ll explore what roadblocks I’ve encountered on my mental health journey and the privilege I carried with me. I’ll talk about the cosmic 2×4 that made me realize that I did indeed have privilege and what I learned we can do to  support those who have mental health concerns arise.
