Compassion is a feeling. It’s the one we get when we are called into the world to love our neighbor. For some people that’s about as far as it goes, but compassion comes from Love, and Love would call us into the world to do the good work of opening each other’s hearts and minds.

Compassion is then more than a mere feeling. It is a call, a charge from the core of our character to meet the moment we are in. This Sunday, let us reflect on the nature and character of compassion, both as a feeling and as a force for good in the world.
