On June 10th our Unitarian Universalist Association national office received a letter from the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Homeland Security. The letter signed by U.S. Rep. Mark Green (R-TN) and U.S. Rep. Josh Brecheen (R-OK) asked for information related to, in their words, “the improper use of federal funds by NGOs to facilitate illegal immigration.”
UUA’s General Counsel responded to the Committee by letter saying, “As a moral and religious commitment, UUs reject any violations of the human rights and dignity of immigrants, regardless of citizenship status, including denial of due process or civil rights protections, the increased risks of human trafficking and exploitation, and violent and capricious immigration law enforcement actions… We reject policies and practices that deny immigrants their basic human rights - especially the right to due process protected under the U.S. Constitution and international law.” You can read the entire letter here.
