With Their Backs Against The Wall: From Brown to Callais

We gather this Sunday on the anniversary of Brown vs. Board of Education, a critical ruling in this country’s history which secured the right to an education for African American children and the full integration of schools.

An auspicious anniversary given the Supreme Court’s viscous, ideological gutting of the Voting Rights Act in the recent case of Louisiana vs. Callais; a move which will no doubt disenfranchise black voters and further rend the fabric of our already fraught cultural condition.

This Sunday, let us explore these rulings, their implications, and the call placed upon our faith by this crucial moment. In the face of despair, in this moment of political crisis, who are we called to be?
