More to Love: Fat Liberation

We live in a time that keeps insisting there is too much of us. “Shrink” it says. Take up less room. Earn your place by disappearing a little more. This Sunday, let us proclaim the opposite.

Pluralism calls us to celebrate that we are all sacred beings, and that all leaves no body behind. Every size, every shape, every soft and ample and unruly form belongs to the diversity our faith calls holy, and none of these necessarily preclude a person from being considered healthy. Fat liberation is not a footnote to that claim. It is the claim, made flesh. So come and set down the scale for an hour. There is more of all of us to love than we have often been given permission to believe, and Love, after all, is what we have placed at the center. Bring your whole body. There is room enough.
