Voter ID law now enacted

Don’t Forget! Starting this year Nebraska voters must present an ID to vote.

The law, as expected, has a lot of details that can be confusing but here are some basics:

  • Accepted IDs must include your name and a photo. ID options include driver’s licenses, passports, military IDs, among others. IDs that meet these requirements but are expired can still be accepted for voting purposes.
  • Eligible Nebraska voters without a qualifying ID can get a state ID for free.
  • Voters requesting mail in ballots will be required to provide an ID number or enclose a photocopy of the ID with the ballot request.
  • Voter ID requirements do not affect the voter registration process.
