For many years our Social Justice Committee has facilitated small group conversations to hear the stories of members in our congregation and to identify issues that are important to you. Sometimes the issues we hear about don’t directly affect our members; many of us are fortunate. As we thought about what would be meaningful, the team held a meeting where we each shared a story about a time we felt powerless. It was an amazing experience that we thought should be replicated. This time of political unease and COVID restrictions may cause a feeling of powerlessness or you may have an entirely different story (many of us did). The story should be yours but also should be a story you are comfortable sharing. Some stories might be about local policies that can be addressed, and if so, we could potentially collaborate with other congregations in Omaha Together One Community to seek a solution.
