OASN’s emphasis is on Accompaniment, Education for undocumented immigrants, and Internal education for OASN volunteers. Accompaniment to court hearings or to provide space and assistance for people who have been awarded humanitarian parole are now the major activities of the organization. OASN is also providing a hotline for persons who are in fear of arrest and deportation. This is an interfaith group that is committed to easing the pain and fear that undocumented immigrants face in this country, especially with the changes that have been implemented by the current U.S. administration. OASN has found that having 15 or more people at a deportation hearing can have an impact on the immigration judge. The judge seems more likely to approve a bond allowing release of the immigrant pending the next hearing when there are many supporters in the room. OASN is also raising funds to assist with living expenses for a person awarded humanitarian parole whose family is already in Omaha so they can all live together and maintain a life until the next phase of the asylum process. omahasanctuary.org
