Habitat for Humanity Faithful Builders – Photo Update

by Clyde Anderson

Thanks to our wonderful Second Unitarian volunteers Saturday (July 28) at the Habitat for Humanity Home Build: David Johnson, Carla/bill Kuhn, Larry Kurtz, Kael Sagheer, Mary Anna Anderson & myself.

Despite some morning rain showers, we were able to stay pretty dry since we were building walls in the basement, which has two bedrooms, a bathroom and utility room. The two-car garage is at the basement level. The home will have five bedrooms.

Although this photo was taken in May, the house didn’t look much different when we started Saturday. The subfloor had been installed on the main level which shielded us from most of the rain while we worked in the basement. (Photo – Clyde)
We took a mid-morning break to welcome Shafiq and his children, the Afghan refugee family that will help build and own the new home. Mom Humaira had to stay home with their infant son. (Photo – Clyde)
By lunchtime over half of the main floor walls were installed. (Photo – Mary Anna)

Kael was the Measurement Master who marked the stud spacing on the bottom and top plates – a critical job so that all the studs are straight. (Photo – Mary Anna)
This is a view of the house when we finished Saturday. A team of 23 volunteers can get a lot done in a day! (Photo – Mary Anna)
