LUNCH FOR NEWCOMERS OCTOBER 13

Lunch for Newcomers will be held at 12:45 p.m. Sunday in the main room downstairs. This small, informal monthly meal is a great opportunity for visitors to become better acquainted with Rev. Scott and other members and to ask any questions you may have about Unitarian Universalism or this church. Children are welcome! For more information, stop by the Welcome Desk.

PRIDE PLAYERS OCTOBER 13

As part of our National Coming Out Day observances, the LGBTQ Welcoming Congregation Committee brings the Pride Players to Second Unitarian Church on Sunday, October 13!  Please join us for a potluck at 6:30 p.m., the performance at 7:00, and a talkback session, and some theater games until 8:30. The Pride Players use improvisation to create songs, poetry, monologues, and skits that explore what it means to be a gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, or straight-allied teen in Omaha.

“LEADING DURING ANXIETY” WEBINAR OCTOBER 15

Nominations and Leadership Development invites you to attend a webinar “Leading a Congregation During Times of Anxiety” on Tuesday, October 15, from 6:45 to 8:00 p.m.  This webinar will look at the causes of anxiety during transition or change, the manifestations of an anxious system, and what leaders can do to influence the system during difficult times.  This webinar is open to anyone interested; please notify the church office at info@2uomaha.org or 402-334-0537 ext. 114 so that we can accommodate you.

We will gather at 10:30 a.m. on the north side of Standing Bear Lake, 132nd St. north of Fort, to pick up litter and enjoy some hot chocolate and fellowship while participating in this community effort. Bring gloves, good humor, effort, and a mug for your cocoa!

PATHWAYS TO MEMBERSHIP NOVEMBER 2

The Pathways to Membership class has been postponed to Saturday, November 2, from 8:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m.  Learn about the history of Unitarian Universalism and our church.  Share your own religious journey, hear about our ministries, and learn about the benefits and expectations of church membership. If you’re interested or have questions, please contact Katie Tessin at membership@2uomaha.org by Sunday, October 27 to reserve your seat or sign up for childcare.

SHARE THE PLATE FOR OCTOBER

One half of Second Unitarian’s offering received in October will go to OneWorld Community Health Centers, providing culturally respectful, quality health care with special attention to the underserved.  OneWorld is the only primary care clinic that has a majority bilingual and bicultural staff, a sliding fee scale for patients without insurance, and entitlement enrollment.  They maintain an open door policy providing treatment regardless of immigration status or income.  To nominate an organization for our Share the Plate, visit the church website or contact the Social Justice Coordinating Council or Rev. Scott.

KIOS BUNDLED DONATIONS

Make your donation go twice as far: support two of your favorite things with one check! Our church can bundle your KIOS Public Radio contribution with others to purchase ad spots for our church. Please send your contribution to the church or leave in the Sunday offering plate. Please make your check payable to Second Unitarian Church (note this is different from last year) with KIOS in the Memo Line. Questions to Nancy Amsler.
