One of our goals toward ensuring a financially sustainable future for the Second Unitarian Church community is to develop a new annual FUNdraising tradition. With roots in Paganism, celebration of spring, emphasis on hope, joy and new growth; we believe an annual May Day Festival, to be held on the first Saturday of May, fits us well and has excellent potential for community participation!
Besides fun crafts and activities, we hope to sell such things as plants (sourced from our own home gardens when we divide perennials), flower or seed themed (sunflower?) baked goods, games & puzzles, “joyful” flea market items, spring-themed crafts, and garden art. This first year especially, we want to temper our expectations for profit with an emphasis on fun and community. We hope this festival evolves, grows, and becomes a favored neighborhood event.
If you enjoy working on crafts and artwork during these cold winter months, please keep our May Day Festival in mind! And as you approach organizing and culling things from your home for the New Year, please set aside games, puzzles, CDs, or any items that may spark joy for others in our “Joyful Flea Market!”
