Share the Plate May & June 2025 – Black Votes Matter Institute’s 8th Annual Civil Rights Tour

Every month Second Unitarian donates half of our offering to a local non-profit. Our partner for May & June is Black Votes Matter Institute’s 8th Annual Civil Rights Tour.

The Black Votes Matter Institute of Community Engagement informs, educates, and inspires the next generation of leaders through a highly interactive and engaged BVM Bus Tour to Tulsa, Memphis, Jackson, Birmingham, Selma, Montgomery, Tuskegee, and Atlanta. Donations contribute to scholarships for youth to attend. While focused on creating the next generation of youth for sustained change, the BVM Institute also conducts year around voter education, registration, and Get Out the Vote initiatives while raising the quality of life for all with an emphasis on the economically disadvantaged, diverse, and multi-ethnic populations. Read this article to learn more about the Annual BVM Bus Tour.

The tour was started by activist and founder of North Omaha’s Black Votes Matter Institute of Community Engagement, Preston Love Jr., after finding the need for more civic education among Omaha’s youth. Preston is Founder & Executive Director of the Institute for Urban Development (4Urban.org), a trade name for the Black Votes Matter Institute of Community Engagement. Second Unitarian has supported the Black Votes Matter program for several years.

Social Justice is the heart of our church, and every day, UUs show up. Please give generously to 2U’s Share the Plate offering to support Omaha For Us  and our church. Mail checks to 2U at 3012 S. 119th Street, Omaha. Put “Share the Plate” in the memo line. OR try our online giving.
