On Sunday, December 15, from 4:30 – 7:30 p.m., the teens will be watching “A Tree Grows in Brooklyn.” Discussion will be led by Bob Fischbach, movie reviewer at the Omaha World-Herald. Snacks will be available and a free will donation will be taken for pizza.
This film focuses on family and relates the trials and tribulations of a turn-of-the-century Brooklyn tenement family. The father is a likable but irresponsible alcoholic whose dreams of improving his family’s lot are invariably doomed. The mother is the true head of the household, holding the family together no matter what crisis arises. The story is told from the point of view of their daughter, a clear-eyed realist who nonetheless would like to believe in her pie-in-the-sky father, whom she dearly loves.
Other movies the teens will be viewing in the future are Sunday, January 19, “Win Win” and Sunday, February 16, “Good Will Hunting.”
