March Share the Plate – Omaha Healthy Kids Alliance

Every month Second Unitarian donates one half of our offering to a local non-profit organization. Our Share the Plate Organization for March 2018 is Omaha Healthy Kids Alliance.

Omaha Healthy Kids Alliance (OHKA) excels at helping families make connections between health and housing issues. We improve children’s lives by assessing homes, educating families, making informed referrals, and connecting clients to home repair services to reduce health and safety risks. We also focus on policy issues and advocacy to help create a local and national infrastructure that support a Healthy Home for every child.

A healthy home matters

A Healthy Home leads to decent and affordable housing, an increased quality of life for children and parents, fewer missed school and work days, reduced health care costs, and stabilizes a neighborhood.

Housing and health are connected.

A Healthy Home promotes the growth and development of children by making direct connections between quality housing and health outcomes. A growing body of evidence links housing issues to serious health problems such as asthma, lead poisoning, cancer, and injuries.
