Second Unitarian’s Share the Plate recipient for March and April 2026 is Food Bank for the Heartland. Founded in 1981, the Food Bank’s mission is, “To eliminate hunger in the Heartland by ensuring consistent access to healthy foods through community partnerships.”
The Food Bank serves 93 counties in Nebraska and western Iowa through more than 500 network partners and 96 cents of every dollar received goes back to the community through their programs. In FY 2025, the organization served over 1.6 million individuals and distributed over 24 million meals, including over one million children’s meals through the Backpack, Kids Café After School, and Kids Café Summer Feeding Programs.
