March and April Share the Plate: Black Votes Matter Annual Civil Rights Tour

Every month Second Unitarian donates half of our offering to a local non-profit. The Black Votes Matter Seventh Annual Civil Rights Tour is the recipient of our Share the Plate for March and April 2024. The Black Votes Matter Institute of Community Engagement informs, educates, and inspires the next generation of leaders through a highly interactive and engaged BVM Bus Tour to Memphis, Jackson, Birmingham, Selma, Montgomery, Tuskegee, and Atlanta. Beginning with the 2023 Tour, Black Wall Street in Tulsa was added.

Donations contribute to scholarships for youth to attend. While focused on creating the next generation of youth for sustained change, the BVM Institute also conducts year around voter education, registration, and Get Out the Vote initiatives while raising the quality of life for all with an emphasis on the economically disadvantaged, diverse, and multi-ethnic populations. The tour was started by activist and founder of North Omaha’s Black Votes Matter Institute of Community Engagement, Preston Love Jr., after finding the need for more civic education among Omaha’s youth. Since Preston Love Jr. is busy campaigning as a candidate for U.S. Senate, Pastor Michael Williams of Mount Mariah Baptist Church, will be leading this year’s tour.
