OTOC Month at Urban Abbey

Second Unitarian is an active member of OTOC (Omaha Together One Community). During February, Urban Abbey coffee house and book store at 1026 Jackson in the Old Market will donate a portion of counter sales to support OTOC. Come to Urban Abbey to learn about our current work.

  • Tuesday February 5th, 6:45 p.m. Solitary Confinement’s Impact on Mental Health – Doug Koebernick, Inspector General of the Nebraska Correctional System for the Nebraska Legislature, will discuss the detrimental effects of solitary confinement on incarcerated individuals.
  • Tuesday February 19th, 6:45 p.m. Substandard Housing and Rental Property Registration – OTOC and coalition partners support Proactive Registration and Inspection of rental property to improve living conditions. Find out about progress.
  • Tuesday February 26th, 6:45 p.m. Climate Change in Nebraska — Projections, Impacts, and Solutions – Martha Shulski, State Climatologist and UNL professor of Natural Resources, will share local impacts and causes of global climate change and what we can do.
  • Tuesday February 28th, 6:45 p.m. Another Payday Lending Bill in 2019 Nebraska Legislature – Payday lending is the practice of lending small amounts of money for exorbitant fees with difficult terms of repayment. Ken Smith of Nebraska Appleseed will discuss the current problem, proposed state legislation to expand these predatory practices, and what can be done now.
